BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Animal Charity in Boardman is out of space. To solve her space problem, she found a building to move.

Now he needs $600,000 to buy the building, whose owner is giving Animal Charity 90 days to get the money.

Fundraising began on Monday evening as Animal Charity’s Jane MacMurchy stood in front of Boardman’s trustees. She did not mince her words.

“We are close to crisis,” she said.

MacMurchy was asking the trustees for money to buy a new building.

“We are just asking for help. We don’t know if you have an ARP [American Rescue Plan] the remaining funds in your budget,” she said. “We lined our hallways with supplies, animals.”

At Animal Charity’s current facilities on Market Street, exam rooms are filled with animals and supplies are stacked to the ceiling. The only space without animals is the waiting room.

“We’re pretty much one case of hoarding from having to close our building again,” MacMurchy said.

Animal Charity has the option of buying a building from Boardman for $500,000 with an additional $100,000 for upgrades. The owner gave them 90 days to raise the money.

“We are asking for help and the funds to buy this urgently. We will do an official fundraising campaign in the future,” MacMurchy said.

Boardman administrators were friendly but evasive.

“We’re going to take what you’ve said and try to figure out if there’s a way that we could…even through people we know and organizations that we know, if there’s a way to find support and encourage you…any other area we know of for you to go,” administrator Larry Moliterno said.

“The building that’s here at Boardman isn’t going to be shiny and flashy and new and pretty, and that’s okay. It’s going to be safe and it’s going to be bigger and it’s going to be efficient for us to work in,” said said MacMurchy.
