TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Alabama Hospital Association announced retired Judge Joseph Colquitt as the recipient of its Administrator of the Year award Thursday.

The annual award honors an “outstanding administrator who has made significant contributions to both their hospital and the health care industry.”

During his tenure on the DCH Board of Directors, Colquitt oversaw many projects, including the addition of Northport Medical Center and a new cancer center.

DCH Health System President and CEO Bryan N. Kindred said Colquitt’s training, experience, personality and wisdom have combined to produce a thoughtful administrator who is meticulous about important details.

“He has been a tireless advocate for DCH and the well-being of the West Alabama communities served by the health system,” Kindred said. “We are grateful for his service and that the hospital association has chosen to recognize him for it.”

In addition to his work with DCH, Judge Colquitt presided from 1971 to 1991 as a circuit judge in the Sixth Judicial Circuit of Alabama and held numerous judicial leadership positions. After retiring from the bench, he became a permanent faculty member at the University of Alabama Law School.
