MARIA McGill CBE returns to Marie Curie as a new administrator, 24 years after starting her leadership career with the UK’s leading end-of-life charity.

Maria joins Marie Curie when the pandemic highlighted massive inequalities and end-of-life shortages for people in the UK. The charity provides essential front-line nursing and palliative care, a free support line, and a wealth of information and support on all aspects of death, death and bereavement. It is the largest charitable funder of palliative and end-of-life care research in the UK.

Retire in February 2020 after a 37-year career, Maria has a wealth of experience in palliative and end-of-life care for people of all ages. Beginning her career as a registered general nurse in 1983, she held two general manager positions (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) from 2010-2020, and Highland Hospice, 2004-2010). She has served as a director of various organizations, including Together for Short Lives and President of the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care – Council.

Between 1997 and 2004 she was Director of Clinical Services and Director of Center in the former Glasgow Marie Curie Hospital building, known as Hunters Hill.

I appreciate the opportunity to work with a group of people, committed to ensuring the delivery of the best end-of-life care possible, to learn together and to share responsibility for something as precious as Marie Curie.

Maria received a CBE in Queen’s Birthday Honors 2020 for her hospice care and charity services.

With her home in Edinburgh, in addition to joining the Marie Curie Board of Directors, Maria will also join the Scottish Advisory Board, chaired by Linda Urquhart OBE.
