As former Clear Creek Independent School District school board members, we believe our experiences have helped us understand what makes a great school board member.

There are normally candidates who espouse the “correct” buzzwords about student, teacher and budget support. We need to ask each candidate if they truly value public education or if their rhetoric undermines Texas’ most sacred responsibility – educating our children. We need to determine whether the candidates are running on a platform of responsible stewardship and non-partisan decision-making. Conversely, we must determine whether they are partisan and divisive spokespersons who espouse half-truths, unsubstantiated conspiracies and innuendos.

Based on our experience, dedication and commitment to the future success of the district, we have concluded that three candidates meet our standards for understanding the role and scope of the school counselor position. They have shown their dedication to educating the public and their willingness to meet the challenges of the future of our district. They also display their ability to both lead and be an active member of a team.

We highly recommend Jonathan Cottrell for At-Large Position A; Rander page for position 4; and Jay Cunningham for position 5.
