James G. Allen Jr. and Jenna Manzano elected as ECC student advisor and student government chair
James G. Allen Jr. of Elgin and Jenna Manzano of Streamwood will represent Elgin Community College students in leadership positions for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Allen was elected for a one-year term as Student Administrator until April 2022. He replaces Taylor Vitacco, who graduated from ECC this semester and will transfer to complete her bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Human Sciences. family at Northern Illinois University starting this fall.
“I decided to run to help support the voice of students at Elgin Community College,” Allen said. “I want to make sure that everyone, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability or financial need, has a focus on ECC to achieve its educational goals. Everyone deserves an opportunity to ensure a better life for themselves and their families. I look forward to working with the Board of Directors to ensure we can achieve these goals and more over the next year. “
Manzano was elected president of the student government. Previously, she served as Streamwood High School Class 2020 President and Streamwood High Representative for the Elgin Area School District U-46 Student Advisory Council. Outgoing student government president Sandra Djou graduated in May with her science associate.
“My goal is to create a comfortable space for students to network and have fun while they are at Elgin Community College, because our college is a place of exploration and growth,” said Manzano.
