Local CSEA Vice President files complaint against DNUSD Trustee Frank Magarino

The vice president of the union that represents the classified staff of the Del Norte Unified School District has filed a complaint against trustee Frank Magarino, saying he did not respect it during Thursday’s school board meeting.

According to Sarah Mitchell, vice president of CSEA Great Northern 178 and behavioral intervention technician for the district, Magarino mentioned her name “in a mocking voice” followed by “dum de dum” (or something like that) ” during the public comment period. Thursday. The commentary can be heard at 4:34:20 am on the live recording of Thursday’s meeting.

Mitchell said on Sunday that she had filed a formal complaint with DNUSD Board Chair Angela Greenough, demanding an apology from Magarino and calling for team building between the board and executives of the CSEA.

In his letter to Greenough, Mitchell also asks the DNUSD board of directors to begin a self-assessment process as described in its statutes.

“As president, it can be difficult to hold your team accountable, but it shows strength and leads to progress and growth,” Mitchell wrote to Greenough. “I think we all know growth can be awkward, but unless we can go through these awkward or embarrassing times honestly and responsibly, there is no chance for growth.”

Magarino’s comment came after the board discussed new job descriptions for entry-level classified positions in risk management, technology and district communications. She also came after administrators discussed changing various classified positions at several schools.

According to Mitchell, following the school board meeting, she was contacted by several of her classified and certified colleagues as well as parents. She said colleagues and relatives also texted her partner.

“I am just concerned about the blatant disrespect and prejudice towards community members and stakeholders who represent a bargaining unit of nearly 400 members and often speak out on behalf of our most vulnerable student populations.” Mitchell told the Wild rivers outpost in an email Friday. “It saddens me to know that my suspicions of unfair and biased representation by school board members are true. I really hope that the school board will take the appropriate steps to correct this problem, not only for me, but to restore confidence in our community’s ability to bring their concerns to our school board members.
