The annual election of directors of the Albert Wisner Public Library is scheduled for Tuesday, May 18 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Due to the economic impact of COVID-19 on the community, the library board will not request an increase in public funding to support the 2021-2022 Operating Budget.

Although library funding is not going to a vote this year, there are two open library administrator positions. One is for a full five-year term, and the other is to complete an unexpired term that ends in three years.

Wayne Rossi and Mary Berrigan are on the ballot for this year’s vacancies.

Wayne Rossi said: “For many years I have been fortunate enough to serve on the board of trustees of the Albert Wisner Public Library. Throughout my life, public libraries have provided knowledge and learning in a safe and comfortable environment. Library staff, principal and board members have tried to nurture and maintain this type of environment that allows our community to feel safe while meeting the needs of our customers.

Mary Berrigan said: “I am a long time resident of Warwick where my daughter grew up and attended schools in Warwick. I retired from the Vernon School District several years ago where I worked as a speech therapist and third grade teacher. Because of my love for the Warwick community, I have been involved with a number of local organizations over the years, including Friends of the AWPL Library, the Warwick Historical Society, and Warwick Valley Gardeners. I have been involved with the Warwick Migrant Community. I tutor (remotely during the pandemic) at the Alamo and work with the children as part of the summer program at Pine Island School.

All registered voters in the Warwick Valley Central School District (WVCSD) are eligible to vote for these two directorships. Voting will take place in person at the school’s usual voting places, not at the library. See the library website for more information www.albertwisnerlibrary.org.
