School District 28 School Board Candidate Heidi Tims – Quesnel Cariboo Observer

The Quesnel Observer asked all SD28 candidates the same four questions. They were limited to 300 words.
Donelly Clement declined to participate, while the remaining 12 contestants provided answers to these questions: A. Can you tell us a bit about yourself? B. What prompted you to stand for school elections? C. What do you think are some of the challenges/concerns facing School District 27? D. How do you plan to meet these challenges? E. What are some fun facts about yourself?
My name is Heidi Tims. I am a retired teacher, living in Quesnel for four years. I have volunteered and worked in education in Canada, Germany and the UK as a library mother, science assistant, teaching assistant, instructor, boarding house manager, teacher and principal’s wife. I participated in the examination, the preparation of the examinations and the establishment of the equivalence between the Cambridge examination levels and the Canadian proficiency levels and the writing of the language plan and the theory of knowledge for the implementation of the IB in a school where I worked.
The district had to extend the nomination deadline because there weren’t enough people, so I decided to put my name forward.
The challenges for the school district are as the city grows, so does the demand for education, slippery roads impacting student transportation, and a lack of continuing education.
How these challenges can be addressed depends on the finances and resources available. As I don’t know at this point, I can only say that I will work within the confines of the board to do what is possible to ensure the best education.
