Tight Sugar Land Race Highlights Fort Bend County Election

Residents traveled to Fort Bend County on Saturday with new trustees and city officials in the election.

Elections are not official until the results have been considered by committees or councils. According to the Texas Secretary of State’s office, the earliest date that elections can be called is Tuesday, May 4. An elected candidate cannot sit until the solicitation is complete.

Any second round of elections would take place after May 24, 23rd day after polling day.

City of Sugar Land

The town of Sugar Land offered the tightest race of the night in the contest for District 1 council member. Suzanne Whatley (50.2%) edged Donna Batten Molho (49.8%).

For District 4 board member, incumbent Carol McCutcheon (81.1%) passed Sakki Joseph (18.9%).

Fort Bend ISD

In the race for administrator 2, Judy Dae receives 59.1% of the vote to easily fend off challenges from Rehan Ahmed (10.3%), Ashish Agrawal (27.7%) and Nadeem Naik (2.9% ).

For director 6, the six-candidate race was led by Kristen Davison Malone (36.8%), followed by incumbent Addie Heyliger (27.3%), Stephanie Brown (14.4%); Allison Drew (10.7 percent), Rafat Ulain Jilani (8.9 percent) and Edtrina Moss (2 percent).

Needville ISD

There have been three meteoric races for the directors of Needville ISD.

For position 3, Chase Raska (68.6%) beat Jimmie Ray Kocian (31.5%). In the race for position 4, Glenn Vecera (87.4%) beat Mayra Bontemps (12.6%). For position 5, Tim Sbrusch (89.4%) overtook Daniel Ryan Meek (10.6%).

Stafford MSD

There was a crowded six-person race for the Stafford MSD 1 administrator position with Dawn Reichling (45.4%) leading, followed by Suzette Thompson (26.7%), Clint Mendonca (12.24%), Mary Ann Smith (9.2%), Edward E. Rector (5.4%) and Darren Blakemore (1.0%).

For the post of administrator 2, Manuel Hinojosa presented himself without opposition.

Town of Fulshear

There were two contested races and two undisputed races for council members at Fulshear.

For District 1 council member, Zach Jones (74.9%) defeated Tajana Surlan (25.1%). For the board as a whole, Kent Pool (82.6%) arrested Cayce Saban (17.5%).

Joel M. Patterson (District 4 Council Member) and Kaye Kahlich (District 5 Council Member) ran unopposed.

City of Needville

The town of Needville provided one of the biggest upheavals in Fort Bend County, with incumbent Mayor Andrew Bohac (30.8%) falling to Council Member Sandra Dorr (69.2%).

Voters were invited to vote for two aldermen. Dusty C. Kalkomey and Cindy Valchar got the most votes in the five-man race, with 26.3% of the vote each. Other candidates in the ballot included Phillip D. Wigginton (21.4%), Rick Sinclair (20.9%) and Josh Aldridge (5.25%).

City of Richmond

There were two races contested for the position of marshal in the city of Richmond.

For position 1, Terry R. Gaul (76.3%) beat Tres Dale Davis (23.7%).

For position 3, Carl A. Drozd (66.7%) held off Carlos A. Garcia (33.3%).

City of Rosenberg

In the mayoral race, Kevin W. Raines (72.5%) overthrew Cynthia McConathy (27.5%).

For the general board member Position 1, Tim Krugh (55.1%) took the upper hand over Rudy Cuellar (21%), Alice S. Jozwiak (18%) and L. Jay Edenmeyer (6%).

For board position 2 overall, Richard Olson dominated the four-man race with 45.6% of the vote with Alicia Casias (25.2%), Amanda J. Barta (16.26%) and Henva B. Medlow ( 12.9%).

City of Stafford

For the 1 position of Stafford City Council member Alice Chen (76.2%) defeated Thomas John (23.8%).

Wen Guerra ran unopposed for position 2 of the board member.

City of Thompsons

Voters were asked to choose three aldermen for the town of Thompsons.

The best votes were Carol M. Gubbels (28.3%), Jacqueline Norwood (27.4%) and Gina Treadgold (27.4%).

Other candidates included Lorene Spears (9.4%) and Willie Spears (7.6%).
