As a director of First Tee, TruGreen has supported the expansion of the First Tee College scholarship program. This year, twelve high school graduates were selected for the First Tee College scholarship program based on their academic achievement, length and involvement in First Tee programs, financial need, and commitment to volunteering.

Part of TruGreen’s support is to increase access to scientific careers, such as agronomy. Within the 2021 class, three students aspire to pursue careers in plant sciences or in other scientific fields. Throughout the scholarship careers’ academic careers, some TruGreen Associates serve as student mentors and contribute to professional development and educational sessions, helping to share industry knowledge and expertise as students bring their passions to life and their education applied in the real world. The program also offers the First Tee alumnus scholarships of up to $ 5,000 per year for four years, and academics will receive additional support for internships and full-time placement after graduation.

As the Official Partner of the PGA TOUR, TruGreen hosted an exclusive behind-the-scenes agronomy mentoring experience for two of this year’s inaugural tee-fellows at the recent World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis. These students had the opportunity to engage with TPC Southwind’s agronomy team – and a TruGreen agronomist – in a mentoring capacity to learn how the team sets the course for world-class competition, including course setup, management, lawn manicuring, green speeds, fairway conditions and rough management. In addition, the fellows took the opportunity to help the team prepare in real life.

During the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, TruGreen also hosted local participants from First Tee – Tennessee in Memphis. Local attendees had an exclusive on-site experience, including a behind-the-scenes tour of the live TV production complex and a glimpse of the new fan activation zone, The TruGreen Backyard.

As the administrator of First Tee, TruGreen is helping to play a role in training the next generation of leaders, including those in science careers. We are honored to support the program and these deserving students with scholarships through First Tee, and to provide ongoing mentorship and career development through our associates, ”said John cowles, President and CEO of TruGreen. “We were also thrilled to engage with this year’s First Tee Scholars and Local participants during our on-site activations at the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. These experiences bring TruGreen’s enthusiasm and pride to life in our meaningful partnerships. with First Tee, PGA TOUR and Tournament Players Clubs. We look forward to seeing the impact that First Tee alumni and local participants will have on our communities.
