BOSTON – The Boston Township Board of Directors on April 14 approved a request from Summit County to consider adding “no parking” signs to Everett Road.
Board chair Amy Anderson said the parking problems plaguing Boston Mills Road have spread to Everett Road, with cars parking there frequently. She added that discussions with Summit County officials led to a suggestion to place the signs between Oak Hill Road and Church in the Valley, located at 2241 Everett Road.
In other news, administrators reacted to news that Peninsula Police Chief Joe Varga is retiring effective May 29. he said, helped him decide it was time to take a step back.
“They will never find someone to match what you did for this township; it won’t happen, ”said Anderson, who said it was a pleasure working with him.
Varga took over as police chief in 2013 after serving as Boston Heights police chief from 1986 to 2012. He said he served in law enforcement for 39 years and five months. He added that he would help the new police chief get used to the role.
In other cases:
• Administrator Randy Bergdorf has said he will help the Summit County Election Board set up and demolish their township polling station for the May 4 primary / special ballot.
• Trustee Bill Clifton announced that the Joint Economic Development District (JEDD) Boston-Cuyahoga Falls collected $ 9,892 in March, bringing the total for the year to $ 19,392. The Boston Peninsula JEDD received $ 6,557 in April, bringing the total for the year to $ 26,083.
• Anderson reported that the Valley Fire District responded to 61 calls in March, including 14 in the township. She also said Varga’s son Joey resigned from Valley Fire because he applied for a lieutenant position with the Columbus Fire Department.
The trustees also approved an offer of $ 1,425 from Advance Door to replace a door; the purchase of three lights for the town hall from Anything Electric LLC; and the purchase of a 6 foot mower from Tractor Supply Co. for $ 1,200.
The next directors’ meeting is scheduled for April 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Boston Township Hall, 1775 Main St. on the Peninsula.
