WICHITA FALLS (KFDX / KJTL) – After a WFISD school board meeting that lasted over four hours, we still don’t know the mascots for future Legacy and Memorial high schools.

On Tuesday, administrators could have narrowed down the mascots to the top two finalists for each high school.

Instead, the school board decided to give the names they like in private to the Executive Director of School Administration, Debby Patterson. Then the two mascots with the most votes will be announced at Monday’s meeting.

Board Trustee Elizabeth Yeager is the only member to speak publicly about the name she has supported, namely the Memorial Mavericks.

“Therefore, you’ll know you’re going to be a Memorial X or a Legacy Y. You know what it’s going to be as a mascot and we want to give it to them ASAP. So now the board will pick two, hopefully on Monday that they approve, and then we’ll go to students, from grade 9 all the way down to vote on those two options for their schools, ”the superintendent said. from WFISD, Mike Kuhrt.

Once the top mascot contenders have been chosen, grade nine and younger students will vote on the final mascot selection.

The eight mascot options for each school are listed below:
