The board voted at the July meeting to move forward with seeking bids to fence off an area of ​​town property that the town has offered to lease to the college at a low cost.

The college has been the victim of theft and property damage related to its vehicles. All four tires were stolen from a car. A few catalytic converters have been stolen and, more recently, holes have been drilled in the gas tanks of pickup trucks to steal gasoline. The vans were parked in the parking lot between the Cardinal Event Center and the Student Union. Cameras captured the people committing the incidents, but it’s unclear if an identification was possible by law enforcement.

The building to be demolished is the old weight building which is on the north side of the existing gymnasium. The building, which sits on the corner of Heacock and Main, once housed the music department.

Although it is too late to consider converting the building to use for vehicles, Taylor said he wanted to point out that this may have been an opportunity the council missed.

The board also approved a furniture bid from McCarty’s Office Machines in the amount of $31,421.56 to provide new furniture for the new sports complex.

Additionally, they approved a pay raise for LCC President Mark Watkins. In awarding 7% pay raises at the regular monthly meeting to instructors, instructional support staff and administrators, Watkins was kicked out.

The board voted Tuesday to approve a 3% raise and $5,000 one-time bonus for Watkins.
