GILLETTE, Wyo — Linda Bricker, administrator for the Campbell County School District, announced at tonight’s board meeting that she had received “a number” of phone calls from people asking if he there were “furs” and litter boxes in schools in the district.

Furries are people who are interested in anthropomorphic art and cartoons and may identify with or take on the characteristics of a species of non-human animal, according to the abstract of the article “Furries from A to Z (Anthropomorphism to Zoomorphism)” which was published in August 2008. in the journal Society and Animals. Some furries dress up in costumes.

“I just want you to know that our school district does not allow furs or litter boxes in classrooms or bathrooms. If something like this happens, we want to know. Because no one seems to be able to figure that out and say, ‘What’s going on here,'” Bricker said. “So we want to quell these rumors that this is going around – I’m not doing Facebook anymore, obviously, but these different social media, and that has to stop.”

Costumes are only allowed at school on special occasions, such as Spirit Week, said school board president Anne Ochs. Elementary students are allowed to dress up for Halloween, she said.
